The coast of the Baltic Sea is where Amber came out of the sea for the first time millions of years ago. Known as “Baltic amber”, it is actually fossil tree resin that sometimes has inclusions of animals or plants dating back to ancient times. Some lucky researchers have actually been able to find a clear piece of amber which contains a fly, mosquito, tiny spider or even a mite but that is most unusual because most inclusions can’t be seen with the naked eye. But when you do see them, either with a microscope or magnifying glass, it’s mind-boggling to realize these inclusions are the same age as the amber itself – 30-50 millions of years old!
